Devon Harry was yesterday sentenced to 21 years’ imprisonment by Justice Gino Persaud for the 2021 murder of Keon McPherson.
In handing down the sentence at the High Court in Demerara, Justice Persaud ordered that the full period Harry spent in pre-trial custody be deducted from his sentence. The judge also directed that Harry participate in anger management training offered by the Guyana Prison Service.
Harry was represented by attorney-at-law Ronald Bostwick, while the prosecution was led by Padma Dubraj, Delon Fraser and Mtumika Lumumba.
McPherson was found dead in a yard at C’ Field, Sophia, with gunshot wounds about his body.
During the trial, the court heard evidence from government pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh, who testified that a post-mortem examination revealed that McPherson sustained two gunshot wounds; one to the abdomen and another to the arm along with several lacerations about his body.
Police witnesses also testified during the proceedings, while the deceased man’s sister was called to give evidence.
Harry was one of four persons charged with McPherson’s murder. Co-accused Brenna Nurse, Nicholas Hercules and Peter Lam were acquitted of the charge.
