Patentia labourer found with suspected cannabis, cocaine

The suspected drugs

A 21-year-old labourer of Patentia, West Bank Demerara, was arrested yesterday after police found small quantities of suspected cannabis and cocaine in his possession during an operation on the Providence Public Road, East Bank Demerara.

According to a police release, the discovery was made at about noon when ranks stopped and searched a motor van occupied by a driver and three passengers.

During the search, police said they found three suspected cannabis joints, a transparent zip-lock bag containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis, and four transparent zip-lock bags containing a whitish substance suspected to be cocaine.

The suspected narcotics were reportedly discovered in a side bag being worn by the 21-year-old labourer.

He was subsequently arrested and taken to the Providence Police Station along with the substances.

Police said the suspected cannabis was weighed in the man’s presence and amounted to two grammes, while the suspected cocaine weighed one gramme. The substances were then lodged.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
