Perseverance man in custody over gun, ammo

A 63-year-old man is in police custody after a firearm and ammunition were allegedly found during a police operation at Perseverance, Essequibo Coast, on Saturday morning.

Police said ranks in Regional Division Two, acting on information received, went to a residence along the Perseverance Public Road at about 10.30 am and made contact with the self-employed resident.

A search of the house was subsequently carried out, during which officers allegedly discovered a .45 pistol and a magazine containing seven matching rounds of ammunition concealed in a bedroom.

The man was arrested and taken to the Anna Regina Police Station along with the firearm and ammunition, which were lodged as exhibits.

Police said the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
