Police Sergeant David Lall was on Tuesday remanded to prison after appearing before the Friendship Magistrate’s Court charged in connection with a shooting incident that left 37-year-old gold miner Carlos Trotman without a leg.
Lall appeared before Magistrate Tamieka Clarke and was charged with discharging a loaded firearm with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause grievous bodily harm.
The charge relates to an incident that occurred on April 12, 2026, at Chanta Creek along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
The court heard that Trotman later underwent the amputation of his left leg as a result of injuries sustained during the incident.
Lall was denied bail and remanded to prison. The matter was adjourned until July 8, 2026, for disclosure of statements.
Meanwhile, Lall’s wife was also charged in connection with the matter for allegedly assaulting Trotman. She was granted bail and is expected to return to court on the same date.
Lall is being represented by attorney-at-law Stacey Gooding, while Trotman and his family are represented by attorney-at-law Samuel Glasgow.
