Venezuelan construction worker charged over gun, ammo

Jonathan David Gans

A 27-year-old Venezuelan national was yesterday remanded to prison after being charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Jonathan David Gans, a construction worker of Great Diamond, East Bank Demerara, appeared before Magistrate Rhondell Weever at the Wales Magistrate’s Court, where the charges were read to him.

The charges allege that Gans was in possession of a firearm and ammunition without a licence on June 11 at Schoonord, West Bank Demerara, contrary to Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05.

According to the police, Gans was arrested on the same day in connection with the alleged offences.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was remanded to prison.

The matter was adjourned until July 14.
