Camptown boosted with equipment support after Elite League promotion

Camptown Football Club received another boost with the donation of a John Deere lawnmower.

One week after securing their place in the GFF Elite League, Camptown Football Club received another boost yesterday when Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Charles Ramson Jr. handed over a lawnmower to the club at the Campbellville Community Ground.

The donation is expected to support the club’s efforts to maintain the playing surface as Camptown prepares for life in Guyana’s top football league. The club has also recently benefited from the installation of lights at the ground.

Camptown FC President Selwyn Robertson thanked the Minister and the Ministry for the contribution, noting the importance of continued support as the club works to build on its recent success.

Ramson said the presentation was part of a wider partnership between the Government and residents of Campbellville, Bel Air, Prashad Nagar, Sophia and nearby communities. He explained that the relationship had developed over time through continued work in community sport and infrastructure.

The Minister also said Camptown’s progress was pleasing, especially given the club’s long history in local football. He described the club as a recognised football name with strong potential, adding that its recent rise showed what can be achieved with committed leadership and community support.

He also noted the lawnmower was being handed over fully to Camptown, but urged the club to ensure the ground remains in good condition. He also encouraged the players to take responsibility for the facility and not see basic upkeep as beneath them.

He reminded the footballers that discipline is an important part of development, both on and off the field. According to Ramson, the habits players build in training and around the club can help separate good players from great players.

Ramson also pointed to the Ministry’s continued support for street football, saying it provides an important outlet during long rainy periods when regular football activity may be limited.

Camptown FC committee member Troy Mendonca also thanked the Minister for the assistance and requested additional support for the facility, including two more lights for each post and a small washroom. He said the club would continue to do its part once those needs are addressed.
