The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and FIFA Regional Member Association Development Manager Amiel Mohammed have inspected the FIFA Arena Mini-Pitch under construction at Haslington, East Coast Demerara.
The facility is expected to provide children and other community members with a safe, quality space to play football while strengthening the GFF’s grassroots and youth development programmes along the East Coast.
GFF President Wayne Forde was joined at the inspection by Second Vice President Rawlston Adams, who oversees infrastructure development, General Secretary Pushpargha Chattopadhyay and other members of the GFF Council.
East Demerara Football Association (EDFA) President Rickford Profitt and other representatives of the association also attended. Representatives of B&J Civil Works, the contractor handling the civil works, were led by Chief Executive Officer Beverley Tapp.

Forde said the project represents a practical investment in young players and the wider Haslington community.
“Projects like this matter because they put football where young people can actually access it. Haslington has a strong football community, and this mini-pitch will give more boys and girls a proper space to play, train and enjoy the game. That is the kind of practical investment we want to continue making across Guyana,” Forde said.
The Haslington mini-pitch is the second of two facilities allocated to Guyana under FIFA’s global Arena initiative. The other is located at Retrieve, Linden.
The programme seeks to increase access to safe football infrastructure while creating more opportunities for children and communities to participate in the sport.
Both facilities form part of the GFF’s broader infrastructure development plan. The federation intends to gradually establish additional mini-pitches across its Regional Associations, making structured football more accessible to communities throughout Guyana.
Its long-term goal is to build a stronger network of community facilities that supports grassroots programmes, develops young players and improves talent identification nationwide.
