Guyanese hockey players set for exposure at Trinidad tournament

According to the Guyana Hockey Board, the tournament presents an important chance for local players to compete against high-quality opposition while strengthening their outdoor hockey skills.

A large group of Guyanese hockey players will have the opportunity to gain valuable regional exposure when they travel to Trinidad and Tobago for the inaugural IPH Outdoor Tournament, set for July 9 to 12, 2026.

The Guyana Hockey Board announced yesterday that the country will be represented by teams from three local clubs, as Guyanese players prepare to test themselves against regional opposition and continue their development in the outdoor format.

The participating teams are Old Fort Men, GCC Men and Women, and a mixed team from Hikers Hockey Club. The Hikers side will also include players from Saints, Old Fort, and Trinidad, and will compete under the name Shane & Friends Elite.

According to the Guyana Hockey Board, the tournament presents an important chance for local players to compete against high-quality opposition while strengthening their outdoor hockey skills. It also provides a platform for clubs to build stronger relationships across the region and contribute to the wider development of hockey in Guyana and the Caribbean.

The Board said Guyana’s strong representation at the tournament reflects the continued growth and strength of the sport at the club level. It also noted that participation in events of this nature is important as Guyana continues to create competitive pathways for both senior and developing athletes.

The Guyana Hockey Board also praised the commitment of the clubs, players, coaches, and supporters who continue to invest their time and resources into the sport.

The Board further acknowledged the role of private sector sponsors, supporters, and local fundraising efforts in making the trip possible. The travelling clubs worked to raise the necessary funds, and the support received was described as a reflection of the value placed on sport, youth development, and community representation.
