National junior cyclists Alexander Leung, Alex Newton, Kevin Stephen and Tandeia Noel have been selected to represent Guyana at the upcoming Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships.
The Guyana Cycling Federation confirmed the junior team after monitoring the performances and progress of cyclists during the National Championships and other major races held during the first half of 2026.
The Federation has also identified a preliminary pool of Elite and Under-23 cyclists, but the riders on that list have not yet been confirmed as members of the final national team.
Leung has been one of Guyana’s leading junior performers in recent seasons. He retained the junior time-trial title at the 2026 National Championships and finished second overall to Under-23 rider Ajani Cutting in the Independence Three-Stage Road Race in May.
Alex Newton also strengthened his case for selection by winning the junior road race at the 2026 National Championships, ahead of Leung.
Noel, the lone female cyclist selected, won the junior female event during the National Championships’ time-trial programme.
The preliminary Elite and Under-23 pool includes several of the country’s most consistent performers.
Briton John heads the Elite group after reclaiming the national road race title in June. He also won the overall title at the CACL Grand Prix in French Guiana earlier that month.
John has recorded several notable overseas results, including a stage victory and second place overall at the 2024 Tour Cycliste de Guiana.
Cutting, who is part of the Under-23 pool, won the 2026 Independence Three-Stage Road Race after narrowly beating Leung in the overall standings.
Marcus Kellier earned the Elite national time-trial title in June after edging Aaron Newton, who retained the Under-23 crown.
The other Elite riders in the preliminary pool are Andre Greene, Alex Mendes, Quincy Ridley, Geron Williams, Seagun Hubbard, Christopher Griffith and Paul DeNobrega.
Sidwell Sandy and Mark Lewis join Cutting and Newton as the Under-23 cyclists being considered.
The Federation is expected to continue assessing the Elite and Under-23 riders before confirming the final composition of the national team.
