Playoff drama highlights successful Acado Guyana Westside Golf Challenge

Shavana Ramlakan survived several playoff rounds to win the Women’s Division as the Acado Guyana-sponsored Westside Golf Course Skills Challenge delivered competitive action for new and experienced players.

The women’s competition was the closest contest of the event, with the leading players requiring additional rounds before the final positions could be determined.

Ramlakan eventually secured first place, ahead of Anusha Singh in second. Carol Ramroop finished third, while Nicola Raghunanan completed the top four.

The Men’s Division also produced a close finish as Feroz Singh recovered with an impressive late performance to capture the title.

Rene Hudson secured second place, while Afrwaz Baksh finished third to earn a podium position for the Acado Guyana Group, which sponsored the tournament.

Junior players were also involved in the precision and distance-control competitions. Czavier Raghunanan won the Junior Division, with Eton Ramroop taking second place.

The event was sanctioned by the Guyana Golf Association and attracted an enthusiastic field, including several first-time golfers. Its simplified skills format was designed to allow beginners to compete while learning different aspects of the sport.

Special recognition prizes were awarded to Adrian Savory, JorgeLuis Echevarria, Dave Ramroop, Suraj Singh, Bashur Khan, Sean Ramoutar, Ravin Nandalall and Robert Hossein for their performances.

Representatives of the Acado Guyana Group described the tournament as an innovative way to attract new participants and help golfers improve their skills through enjoyable competition.

“We are extremely happy to be associated with this highly competitive form of golf at the Westside Golf Course. It is an innovative way to introduce new players to the sport while developing their skills through fun and competitive challenges,” the representatives said.

Guyana Golf Association President Aleem Hussain said the steady turnout at the Westside Golf Course was encouraging for the development of grassroots golf.

The Skills Challenge is among several initiatives being used by the Westside Golf Course to make golf more affordable and accessible. Hundreds of new players have been introduced to the sport through beginner-friendly activities over the past year.

Organisers said another Skills Challenge and additional golf events will be announced shortly, with participation open to players of all ages and experience levels.
