Smalta joins MVP Sports in backing 24-team girls’ U-11 football tournament

L-R: Petra Organisation’s Troy Peters, Smalta Brand Manager Kimberly Jaigobin, Petra Co-Director Troy Mendonca and Secretary Nareeza Latif.

Smalta has signed on as a major partner of the 10th annual Girls’ Under-11 Schools Football Tournament, with MVP Sports also sponsoring the Petra Organisation competition. The tournament kicks off on Saturday, November 14, with 24 teams from Georgetown and six regions.

The field has expanded from 16 teams, with defending champions Santa Rosa Primary and runners-up Waramuri Primary both returning. The two Region One schools met in last year’s final at the Ministry of Education Ground, where Santa Rosa won 3–2.

Speaking at Thursday’s presentation at Guyana Breweries Inc. in Providence, East Bank Demerara, Smalta Brand Manager Kimberly Jaigobin said the partnership reflects the brand’s commitment to giving young people positive ways to spend their time. She said football can help children build confidence and develop new skills while learning teamwork, discipline and perseverance.

“This tournament gives young girls the opportunity to play, learn and grow through the game,” Jaigobin said.

She thanked Petra for its work to develop football in Guyana and acknowledged the schools and others helping to stage the competition. Jaigobin also wished the teams well and said she looked forward to seeing players, coaches and families come together for the tournament.

Den Amstel Primary and Genesis Academy will represent Region Three, while Friendship Primary will compete from Region Four. St. Therese’s Primary and St. Aloysius Primary will represent Region Six.

St. John the Baptist Primary, Batavia Primary, Potaro Primary and Agatash Primary will compete from Region Seven, while One Mile Primary will represent Region Ten.

The Georgetown teams are School of the Nations, Smith Memorial Primary, Stella Maris Primary, Tucville Primary, West Ruimveldt Primary, Marian Academy, GIA Academy, North Georgetown Primary, F.E. Pollard Primary, St. Stephen’s Primary, South Ruimveldt Primary and Enterprise Primary.
