ANSA McAL mall construction advances

ANSA McAL has pledged to preserve and restore the historic Chateau Margot Chimney as part of its ongoing development of the Chateau Margot Mall and Lifestyle Centre on the East Coast Demerara, with the company saying the structure will remain a cultural and community landmark.

The company said it was working in partnership with the National Trust of Guyana to restore and maintain the chimney, which it described as an enduring symbol of Guyana’s industrial past.

The commitment comes as construction of the multimillion-dollar mall reaches 55 per cent completion, one year after the project’s official sod-turning.

In a media release, the company shared that the development, being undertaken by the group and its affiliates at an investment of close to US$50 million, is expected to be completed in 2027.

The company said the area surrounding the chimney is also being developed as a public space that will accommodate leisure activities, cultural events and open-air programmes, combining the commercial development with opportunities for community engagement.

Located approximately 15 kilometres from central Georgetown, the mall is expected to provide about 120,000 square feet of space for retail outlets, restaurants and service providers.

Structural works are already well advanced across the site, according to the company, which said the project is generating hundreds of construction and permanent jobs.

Joseph Rahael, Sector Head of Real Estate at ANSA McAL Limited, said reaching the halfway mark was a significant achievement for those involved in the development.

He said the project had been designed to provide a space that would serve tenants, shoppers and surrounding communities for decades.

Apart from its retail and entertainment offerings, the facility will include premium office space for rent and nearly 500 parking spaces.

ANSA McAL Country Head for Guyana and Suriname Troy Cadogan said the development reflected the company’s confidence in Guyana’s future and its commitment to expanding alongside the population.

The ANSA McAL Group has operated in Guyana for more than 30 years and has business interests across beverage, distribution, automotive, construction, media and real estate.
