A man accused of possessing cannabis for the purpose of trafficking was yesterday remanded to prison after appearing before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Kasharif Peters pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on July 31, at Charlotte Street, Georgetown, he had cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
According to the prosecution, police officers were conducting a cordon-and-search exercise in the Charlotte Street area on the day in question when one of the ranks observed Peters walking east along Charlotte Street carrying a black plastic bag.
The court heard that the officers approached Peters, informed him that they wished to conduct a search of his person and the bag, and the search was carried out in the presence of the police.
During the search, the police allegedly discovered three taped parcels containing the suspected cannabis.
Peters was remanded to prison, and the matter was adjourned to September 14 for continuation.
