Dear Editor,
Yes, the safety checks should have been carried out before the recently scheduled departure of the MV Ma Lisha. Who better to know than the captain they arrested for murder?
Admiral Nimitz, who took over the US Pacific fleet after the Pearl Harbor disaster, deliberately retained the same intelligence officer who could not say where the Japanese strike fleet was at the time of the bombing, because that officer was the most qualified to know what went wrong. The officer provided accurate information to gain victory for the US at the battle of Midway. Admiral Nimitz did not spend time proving blame. He spent the time preparing for winning the war.
We are not blessed with proactive administrators who see that the T&HD are short of 3 experienced men in the required field, only with reactive politicians who want loyalty to their incompetent methods of achieving goals successfully. Let a properly constituted commission of inquiry take its time to establish accountability. And if boats are still going to sail in the meantime, we need those three men there on the job to face the shortcomings and make the corrections.
Yours faithfully,
Alfred Bhulai
