Grillmaster Avengers, Lusignan Bulls DTP I, The Mavericks and Grillmaster Sip N Play All Stars secured places in the Berbice Zone semi-finals of the Lotto/Let’sBet One Guyana T10 Tapeball tournament following an action-packed opening day.
The four teams will return to the Albion Sports Complex today when the zonal competition concludes under floodlights. The semi-finals are scheduled for 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM, followed by the Berbice final at 7:30 PM.
The young Mavericks side made full use of familiar conditions in Canje, completing two impressive run chases to reach the last four.
In the Round of 16, Mavericks successfully chased Cotton Tree Die Hard’s total of 105, reaching their target in 9.4 overs. Adrian Hetmyer led the charge with an explosive 55 from just 17 deliveries.
Hetmyer contributed again in the quarter-finals against Blairmont Blazers, while Trevon Stanislaus claimed two wickets for 20 runs from three overs. Mavericks raced to 122 for five in 8.1 overs to overhaul Blazers’ total of 117.
They will now meet Lusignan Bulls DTP I, who produced one of the most dominant performances of the opening day.
The Bulls crushed Meera Warriors by nine wickets in their quarter-final, chasing a target of 63 in only 3.5 overs.
Earlier, Akshaya Persaud blasted 56 from 23 balls and Sheldon Alexander struck 43 from 18 deliveries as the Bulls posted 134 for five against Ethan XI. They then restricted Ethan XI to 43 for seven to complete a comprehensive victory.
Ethan XI had previously recorded a 98-run win over Royal Warriors after Afraz Budhoo scored 58 and Nathaniel Ramsammy made 50 in a commanding total of 162 for two. However, they were unable to reproduce that performance against the Bulls.
Grillmaster Sip N Play All Stars also advanced comfortably, beating Corriverton Spartan by eight wickets in their quarter-final.
Grillmaster Avengers secured their place in the semi-finals through a forfeit by No. 73 Young Warriors, having earlier defeated No. 70 Spartans.
Today’s programme will also include a star-studded women’s match at 6:00 PM before the Berbice Zonal Final.
The Berbice champions will collect $500,000 and qualify for the national stage, while the runners-up will receive $200,000. Losing semi-finalists will earn $50,000 each, with the four losing quarter-finalists receiving $25,000 apiece.
The prizes are supported by primary zonal sponsor SAWA, along with the Guyana Cup and Scoop. Title sponsor Guyana Lottery Company, through its Lotto and Let’sBet Sports brands, will also conduct interactive activities for spectators and a special raffle for entry to the upcoming Guyana Cup horse-racing event.
The tournament’s national grand finale is scheduled for October 11 at the newly constructed Anna Regina National Stadium in Essequibo, where the overall champions will claim $2 million.
Following the Berbice leg, the competition will move to East Bank Demerara and West Demerara on August 15–16, followed by Essequibo on August 22–23. It will then pause for the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League before resuming in Georgetown and East Coast Demerara in late September and early October.
