Guyana’s Under-14 boys advance to CFU semi-finals with perfect record

Guyana’s Under-14 boys have advanced to the semi-finals of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-14 Challenge Series after recording three consecutive victories in Group C of the Tier II competition in the Dominican Republic.

The young Golden Jaguars completed the preliminary round with nine points, scoring 13 goals and conceding only two. They will return to action in the semi-finals on Friday, August 21, with a place in the final at stake.

Guyana secured qualification with a disciplined 1-0 victory over The Bahamas in their final group match. Wayshawn Forde scored the decisive goal in the 65th minute to preserve the team’s perfect record.

The Guyanese opened their campaign with an impressive 8-1 win over Montserrat. Forde led the scoring with a hat-trick, while Aaron Vasconcellos netted twice. Avon Peters, Dane Vancooten and Lujon Dos Santos also found the back of the net.

They maintained their momentum in the second match with a convincing 4-1 victory over Anguilla. Vasconcellos struck in the eighth and 24th minutes, Vancooten scored in the 35th minute, and Asher McIntyre completed the scoring in the 56th.

Forde and Vasconcellos were Guyana’s leading scorers during the group stage with four goals each. The team also showed strong defensive organisation, conceding just twice across its three matches.

The Guyana Football Federation congratulated the players, coaching staff and wider support team on their unbeaten group-stage campaign. The federation said the results reflected its continued investment in youth development and the opportunities provided through its talent-development programmes.

The federation also encouraged the young Golden Jaguars to maintain their focus, discipline and team spirit as they prepare for Friday’s semi-final.
