Dear Editor,
Editor, I want to be very frank, while a lot of conversations have already been had and discussions are continuing to be had about the sinking of the M.V. Barima last July and about what the government is currently doing and also what the government is not doing in terms of financial, spiritual, emotional and moral support to those families affected by the tragedy, no one in government is harping about salvaging the sunken boat.
The topic of salvaging the sunken M.V. Barima is not an engagement for the government while families are left hopeless about what happened to their families. Editor, counselling and wholistic support are good but this cannot compensate for what the families of those who lost their lives tragically are asking for to salvage the sunken boat.
I believe that the government should focus more on salvaging the boat to satisfy the families of the deceased. That’s their only wish. This is what they think would bring closer. Editor the people constitute the government and when the government realizes this they would also create a space for improvement.
Let us not forget about most of the evidence that would be buried if the boat is not salvaged. The government of the day needs to give the people what they are asking for. It is doable. Let us get to work and at the same time create a nation of peace, love and unity.
Your sincerely,
Yannason Duncan
