Persaud’s four-wicket haul fires Annandale into U19 T20 final

Annandale spinner Akeem Persaud (left) produced a match-winning spell of four wickets for 11 runs.

Annandale Secondary secured a place in the final of the 2026 Ministry of Education/Beharry Secondary Schools’ Under-19 T20 cricket tournament after defeating Abram Zuil Secondary by seven wickets in Qualifier Two at the Enterprise Ground yesterday.

Spinner Akeem Persaud produced a match-winning spell of four wickets for 11 runs as Abram Zuil were dismissed for 87 in 19 overs. Annandale then reached 88 for three in exactly 16 overs, led by captain Joshua Bollers and Ruel Dindyal.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Abram Zuil struggled to build partnerships as wickets fell regularly around Marcanthony Obermuller. The top-scorer struck five fours in his 30 but received little support from the other batters.

Persaud, regarded as one of Guyana’s promising youth players, led Annandale’s bowling attack and earned the Player-of-the-Match award. Sanjay Dindyal supported him with three for 14, while Bollers claimed two for 32.

Although Annandale conceded 19 extras, their bowlers maintained control and prevented Abram Zuil from posting a competitive total.

In reply, Bollers led from the front with a patient 32 from 39 deliveries, including three fours. After his dismissal, Dindyal guided Annandale safely to victory with an unbeaten 29 that did not include a boundary.

Ravid Fredericks, who has been among Abram Zuil’s leading performers with the bat during the tournament, was dismissed cheaply but returned to claim one for 15. Joash Inniss took one for nine, while Rhonel Nurse finished with one for 14.

Annandale will now face Berbice Educational Institute in the final on Tuesday, August 25, at the Queen’s College Ground.
