Demerara Under-13 completed a well-managed run chase against Essequibo, while Berbice Under-13 recorded a commanding eight-wicket victory over the GCB Select XI in the opening round of the Guyana Cricket Board Under-13 Tournament on Saturday.

At the Lusignan-Belfield-Isaac Ground, Demerara defeated Essequibo by six wickets after successfully chasing 135 with two overs remaining.

Essequibo won the toss and elected to bat, posting 134 for eight from their allotted 25 overs. Captain Vidal Narine led the innings with 30 from 36 deliveries, while Kaysean Doodnauth contributed 27 from 32 balls.

Aaron Perkins produced the best bowling performance for Demerara, taking four wickets for 15 runs from three overs.

Demerara reached 135 for four in 23 overs, led by an impressive innings from Xavier Dodson. He struck five fours in a top score of 41 from 37 deliveries, while captain Caleb Bastian provided valuable support with a quick 24 from 16 balls.

Their contributions kept Demerara ahead of the required rate and helped the team secure a comfortable six-wicket victory.

Meanwhile, at the Albion Sports Complex, Berbice dismissed the GCB Select XI for only 44 in 15 overs before racing to victory.

The Select XI chose to bat after winning the toss but struggled throughout the innings, with none of their batters reaching double figures. Nitan Manna, Aryan Ali and Omar Ragubar led Berbice’s dominant bowling effort by claiming three wickets each.

From left: Xavier Dodson (41), Aiyan Persaud (20) and Caleb Bastian (24) all made contributions to the Demerara innings.

Berbice then reached 45 for two in just 7.4 overs. Manna remained unbeaten on 14 from 28 deliveries, while Summit Samaroo finished on 11 not out to complete the eight-wicket win.

The tournament continues on Monday, with Berbice facing Demerara at LBI. The GCB Select XI will meet Essequibo at the Lusignan Community Centre Ground.
