Western Tigers secured their first victory of the GFF Elite League Season Eight campaign with an impressive 4-1 comeback win over Camptown Football Club on Saturday night at the National Training Centre, Providence.

Jamal Fraser, Hakeem Legall, Michael Oie and Rondel Peters scored for Western Tigers after Marlon Bethel had given Camptown a dream start in the opening minute.

The victory helped Western Tigers rebound from their 1-0 defeat to the Guyana Defence Force in their opening match last weekend.

Bethel placed Camptown ahead almost immediately, but their advantage lasted only 12 minutes. Fraser brought Western Tigers level in the 13th minute before Legall struck in the 38th to give his team a 2-1 lead at halftime.

Camptown’s challenge became more difficult when Eusi Phillips was sent off in the 61st minute after receiving his second yellow card.

Western Tigers capitalised on their numerical advantage, with Oie extending the lead in the 72nd minute. Peters, who entered the match two minutes earlier, completed the scoring in the 87th.

In the opening game of Saturday’s double-header, Fruta Conquerors earned a narrow 1-0 victory over Anns Grove United.

After a scoreless first half, Jermain Harry broke the deadlock in the 48th minute. His strike proved sufficient as Fruta Conquerors protected their advantage for the remainder of the contest.

The Elite League continues on Sunday night with another double-header at the National Training Centre.
