Dear Editor,
I am writing to express my concern about the ongoing power outages in Berbice. For the past three+ months, residents have been experiencing daily outages, sometimes more than twice a day, with some lasting over three hours.
In the evenings, we also experience short outages followed by low and unstable voltage. At times, I cannot even use basic appliances such as my microwave or pressure water pump, and there is always the concern of appliances being damaged.
I understand that Guyana’s electricity demand has grown and that maintenance and other challenges can affect the grid. However, why does it seem as though Berbice is experiencing these problems on a daily basis? Electricity is not a luxury; it is a necessity.
Why are residents of Berbice being expected to accept this as the new normal? Why is Berbice being treated like Cuba when it comes to electricity?
We deserve a reliable and stable supply of electricity, and I believe residents deserve an explanation as to when this situation will improve.
