Guyana names six athletes for South American U23 Championships

Tishawn Easton will compete in the 200 metres and 400 metres

Six athletes have been approved to represent Guyana at the South American Under-23 Athletics Championships, scheduled for October 16–19 in Santa Fe, Argentina.

The Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) Council approved the team after the athletes achieved the qualifying standards for their respective events. The delegation is scheduled to depart on October 14.

Tishawn Easton will compete in the 200 metres and 400 metres, while Robert Marcus is entered in the 100 metres and 200 metres. Jeremiah George completes the sprint contingent and will contest the 100 metres.

Guyana will also have three representatives in the jumping events. Yohance Bourne will compete in the long jump, while Rodel Greene and Krystal Morris will contest the triple jump.

Dr James Cole will serve as team manager, with Moses Pantliz and Trishel Thompson completing the three-member group of officials.

Alongside her involvement with the team, Thompson will participate in a training programme for female coaches specialising in combined events. The programme begins on October 15 and concludes on October 27, extending beyond the championship period.

The AAG Council, coaches and affiliates extended their best wishes to the athletes and officials, while also recognising Thompson’s nomination for the coaching programme.

The association thanked the Government of Guyana for its continued financial support, highlighting the contributions of Minister Charles Ramson and Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Steven Jacobs.

It also acknowledged the Executive Council of the Guyana Olympic Association for its ongoing financial assistance.
