A 56-year-old Stewartville resident died on Thursday night after he was struck by a motor car while crossing Groenveldt Public Road, West Coast Demerara.
Dead is Bharrat Bisnauth, who sustained head and other bodily injuries in the accident, which occurred around 21:10 hrs on October 22, 2026.
According to police, motor car PNN 585, driven by a 29-year-old Cornelia Ida resident, was proceeding west along the southern side of Groenveldt Public Road when its front portion struck Bisnauth, who was crossing the road from north to south.
Initial investigations indicate that the car was allegedly travelling at a fast rate of speed.
Bisnauth was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he died while receiving medical treatment.
His body is at Ezekiel Funeral Parlour awaiting a post-mortem examination.
A breathalyser test conducted on the driver returned a reading of 0.024 per cent.
Police also identified CCTV cameras in the vicinity and obtained footage as part of their investigation.
Investigations are ongoing.
