Parag visits Plantation Hope family left homeless after fire

The burnt home

Minister of Education Sonia Parag on Thursday visited the Wahab family at Plantation Hope, West Coast Berbice, after an early morning fire destroyed their two-storey home, leaving five persons, including a two-year-old child, homeless.

According to the Ministry of Education, Parag, who is also the geographical Member of Parliament for Region Five, met with family members, including Bibi Wahab and homeowner Jasode Wahab, to offer support and hear their immediate concerns following the blaze, which reduced the house and its contents to ashes.

Regional Executive Officer Mary Samaroo and Regional Vice Chairman Kleon Lindey also accompanied the minister and assured the family of the regional administration’s support.

The ministry said community activists have already begun mobilising assistance and are organising a fundraiser to help the family rebuild.

It also extended its sympathies to the Wahab family and commended residents of Plantation Hope for rallying in support of those affected.
