GMIN advertising for Heavy Fuel Oil

As it gears up for major gold mining operations in January of 2028, GMIN Ventures Guyana Inc (GMIN) has begun advertising for the supply of Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) for its operations.

On its Facebook page, GMIN is forecasting to use 2.6m litres of the fuel  in 2027 with this figure rising dramatically to 66.4m litres in 2031.

The Oko Gold Project is  located approximately 95 km west of Georgetown, south of the historical Oko gold district, with access via the Puruni Road from the Bartica and Itabali areas.

The company said that it will generate power for the project using HFO and is seeking suppliers with the technical capability, storage capacity and logistical resources to meet the project’s anticipated fuel requirements.

The selected supplier will be expected to deliver HFO to GMIN’s designated facility on the Cuyuni River.

The supplier will be expected to maintain sufficient storage capacity to meet anticipated supply volumes. It will also be expected to arrange and execute reliable barge transportation and delivery to GMIN’s designated location on the Cuyuni River in accordance with the required delivery schedule.

GMIN’s burning of HFO – which is also being widely used by GPL – will add to the country’s carbon emissions.
