The investigation was launched after Paneque Gómez, of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, was initially reported missing. She was last seen during the early morning hours of Thursday, June 18, 2026, while reportedly on her way to work.

According to the Guyana Police Force, detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters later recovered her body in a decomposed state at about 7:50 p.m. on Thursday in a clump of bushes along the East Coast Demerara.

Thomas was arrested following the discovery and has remained in police custody throughout the investigation.
