Husband held over suspected murder of Uitvlugt woman

The suspect in custody

The husband of 46-year-old Shavannie Hanoman, called `Bo’, remains in police custody and has admitted to fatally injuring his wife, according to Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum.

Speaking with Kiskadee Watch, Blanhum said, “The husband is in police custody and has so far admitted to inflicting the fatal injuries on his wife.”

Police are continuing their investigations into Hanoman’s suspected murder, which occurred between Wednesday, June 24, and Thursday, June 25, 2026, at De Groote-en-Klien, Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara.

Initial investigations revealed that Hanoman, a housewife of De Groote-en-Klien, was reported missing after she failed to return home on Wednesday.

According to the Guyana Police Force, her body was discovered floating in a trench at De Groote-en-Klien on Thursday. Police were summoned to the scene, and the body was later identified as that of Hanoman.

An examination of the body revealed injuries to the neck and other parts of the body. The body was subsequently taken to the Ezekiel Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

A 44-year-old male, who police have since identified as the woman’s husband, was arrested and remains in custody as investigators continue their probe.
