Two held after phone robbery at Covent Garden

The police say that they have arrested two suspects as investigations continue into an armed robbery committed against a 20-year-old auto body technician at Covent Garden New Scheme, East Bank Demerara.

According to the police, the robbery occurred at about 8 pm on Monday while the victim was walking east along a street in the community with his cellular phone in his hand.

Police said two men approached him from behind on a motorcycle. One of the suspects, who was reportedly armed with what appeared to be a handgun, dismounted the motorcycle, pointed the weapon at the victim and relieved him of the cellular phone before fleeing with his accomplice.

The matter was reported to the police and the stolen cellular phone was subsequently recovered.

Police said a 25-year-old man and an 18-year-old man were later arrested and taken to the Providence Police Station, where they remain in custody as investigations continue.
