Boy feared drowned in Corentyne River

A 14-year-old boy from Number 60 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, is feared drowned after he disappeared in the Corentyne River on Monday afternoon.

The missing teen has been identified as Daveanand Rambhajan.

According to his stepfather, Faizal DaSilva, Daveanand had gone to swim at the Golden Grove “Back Track” at around 4:00 p.m. on Monday.

DaSilva told Kiskadee Watch that he was informed the teenager had been swimming with three other boys when he reportedly slipped and fell into the river. The other boys reportedly rushed to seek help after the incident.

Family members were alerted after Daveanand failed to return home, and the matter was reported to the authorities. Police and other responders subsequently launched a search of the river.

As of yesterday, Daveanand had not been found and is feared drowned. Search efforts involving the authorities, relatives, and residents were continuing up to last evening with additional search efforts expected.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
