Judy Latchman appointed as Chief Magistrate

Chief Magistrate Judy Latchman

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) yesterday announced the appointment of Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman as Chief Magistrate.

A JSC release said that the appointment was made by the Commission on January 7th, 2025 and will take effect from that date. There was no explanation why her appointment was not announced at the time that it was made.

The Facebook page of the Supreme Court of Judicature said that Magistrate Latchman obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Guyana in 2002 and a Legal Education Certificate from the Hugh Wooding Law School in 2004. She joined the magistracy in 2009 and was later elevated to the post of Principal Magistrate in 2017.
