Suspected ecstasy found in crotch of man arriving from Suriname

The suspected ecstasy.

A 53-year-old Georgetown man is in police custody after 81 grammes of suspected ecstasy were found concealed on his person following his arrival by speedboat from Suriname on Saturday morning.

Police said the discovery was made at about 6.40 am at No. 78 Foreshore, Corentyne, Berbice.

According to the police, ranks in Regional Division Six, acting on information received, were on duty in the area when they observed a speedboat arriving from Suriname with the man as its sole passenger.

He was escorted to the Springlands Police Station, where a search was conducted in the presence of other ranks. During the search, the police said that two transparent plastic bags and a black plastic parcel containing green, pink and grey pills suspected to be ecstasy were found concealed in the crotch area of his pants.

The man was arrested and informed of the allegation.

Police said the suspected narcotics were weighed in the suspect’s presence and amounted to 81 grammes before being lodged.

Investigations are continuing.
