Guyana’s men’s 3×3 basketball team secured its first victory of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026 competition with a 21-17 win over the Cayman Islands after losing its opening two Pool A matches.

Anish Ramlall led the scoring with nine points, including three successful two-point shots from five attempts, while Travis Belgrave contributed seven points and also connected three times from beyond the arc.

Kevin Mickle added four points, five rebounds and a dunk, while Christian Hinckson scored one point and provided valuable defensive effort.

Guyana showed marked improvement from long range, converting six of 11 two-point attempts for a 55 per cent success rate. The team also committed just one turnover while forcing the Cayman Islands into eight.

The victory followed defeats against hosts Scotland and New Zealand earlier in the competition.

In their opening match, Guyana produced a competitive performance before losing 21-14 to Scotland. Hinckson led the team with six points and converted all four of his one-point attempts.

Mickle recorded three points, six rebounds and a dunk, while Belgrave and Ramlall contributed three and two points, respectively.

Guyana shot 82 per cent from one-point range and matched Scotland closely in rebounding, finishing with 17 boards compared with the hosts’ 18. However, the Guyanese struggled from beyond the arc, converting only two of their 19 attempts.

New Zealand then handed Guyana a 21-3 defeat in the second Pool A encounter. The New Zealanders shot 75 per cent from two-point range and restricted Guyana throughout the contest.

Hinckson scored three points, while Ramlall also got on the scoresheet. Guyana missed all three of its two-point attempts, committed six turnovers and failed to collect an offensive rebound.

Guyana will conclude its Pool A schedule against Australia and Nigeria on July 25.
