A 27-year-old Cuban woman wanted in Suriname in connection with an alleged human trafficking operation has been extradited from Guyana, according to the Suriname Police Force.
Rosana Guerra Perez, also known as “Diana”, was arrested by Guyanese police on August 2 following a request from their Surinamese counterparts. She was handed over to the Surinamese authorities on August 4 after the completion of the extradition process, the police said.
According to the Suriname Police Force, the country’s Attorney General had ordered Perez’s arrest and appearance before the court on January 6. She is suspected of human trafficking, co-perpetrating or assisting in human trafficking, and participating in a criminal organisation.
The police said the investigation intensified in January after another suspect, identified by the initials B.N., was arrested. Several suspected trafficking victims were reportedly found at two addresses in Paramaribo, Suriname and taken to safety.
Perez subsequently emerged as a suspect during the investigation but had already fled to Guyana, according to the police.
After receiving information that she was in Guyana, Surinamese investigators requested assistance from the Guyanese authorities in locating, arresting and extraditing her.
Upon her return to Suriname, Perez was taken to the police Trafficking in Persons department for questioning. Following consultations with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, she was detained pending further investigation.
An earlier wanted bulletin issued by the Suriname Police Force identified Perez as a Cuban national born on August 4, 1998. It linked her to a December 20, 2025 police operation at a house on Porfierstraat in Paramaribo, where four women of Latin American origin were reportedly rescued.
The Suriname Police Force expressed appreciation for the cooperation of the Guyanese authorities, saying the operation demonstrated the countries’ shared commitment to combating human trafficking and bringing suspects before the courts.
There has been no local information of the arrest or handing over by the Guyana Police Force.
