Letters To The Editor

Make Robert Persaud Minister of Agriculture

Dear Editor,

Too many ministers in the Irfaan Ali government are failing the people. Chocolate lady Susan,  Bishop Edghill and the list goes on. This is a direct reflection on the competence of Irfaan Ali himself and who he chose to do the people’s work. The time is now for a Cabinet reshuffle.

Mr. Robert Montgomery Persaud (now Foreign Secretary) should return as Minister of Agriculture. His tenure was far more successful than Noel Holder’s and now Zulfikar Mustapha.

Just this week, Mustapha authorized importing 330,000 pounds of chicken per week for six weeks—over G$1.1 billion having to be converted to foreign currency and sent abroad to a foreign country for their enrichment because his ministry cannot manage local poultry production. We do not know if Christmas will bring another crisis of this nature where more billions will be lost to foreign suppliers at the expect on the local Guyanese economy.

Under Persaud in 2010, Guyana achieved self-sufficiency in poultry. That can happen again—but never under Mustapha. Mr. Zulfikar Mustapha is clueless about moving any industry forward, be it country, goat or sugar. He should be banished to Freedom House for low-level organizing work.

And while we are it, let us make the Hon. Minister Mr. Collin Croal into the Minister of Public Works, he is one of the most competent Ministers in the Irfaan Ali Government.  Put Edghill at the Ministry of Social Security and move the Hon. Minister Vindhya Persaud to the Ministry of Housing.

It is time for the General Secretary of the PPP, Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo to take charge of the escalating decay in the Irfaan Ali Government by engineering a cabinet reshuffle and the return of Robert Persaud.

Yours faithfully,

Lancelot Hyman
