Guyana set for two major maritime meetings

Guyana is set to host two major regional maritime meetings this month, bringing together delegates and senior  officials from across the Caribbean to discuss issues relating to safety, security and regulatory oversight.

According to a release from the Maritime Administration Dpartment (MARAD), approximately 40 delegates representing 20 member and associate member states, along with observers and representatives from other territories, will participate in the 31st Caribbean Port State Control Conference (CPSCC), which will be held from today to June 18 at the AC Marriott Hotel in Ogle.

The conference will focus on strengthening regional cooperation and harmonising efforts to improve vessel safety, compliance and port state control practices throughout the Caribbean. It will also provide an opportunity for maritime administrations, port state control officers and industry stakeholders to share best practices, address emerging challenges in the sector and advance compliance with international maritime standards.

Guyana will also host the Regional Meeting of Directors and Heads of Maritime Administrations (DIHMAR) from June 22 to 24 at the Aiden by Best Western in Georgetown.

Convened under the auspices of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the meeting will bring together senior maritime officials to review developments in the sector, strengthen regional cooperation and advance initiatives aimed at promoting maritime safety, security and environmental protection.

According to organisers, hosting both events underscores Guyana’s commitment to regional maritime development and highlights the country’s growing role in advancing stronger maritime governance, regulatory oversight and safe, efficient and sustainable shipping across the Caribbean.
