Farm Supplies Guyana Limited has renewed its support for the Flying Ace Cycling Club’s annual race, paving the way for a $300,000 prize package when the cyclists take to the National Park outer circuit on Sunday.
The action will begin at 2:00pm on Irving Street, with riders completing 20 laps of the 3.8-kilometre circuit for a total distance of 76 kilometres, or approximately 47.2 miles.
Last year’s winner, Jamaul John, will return to defend his title against a competitive field in what is expected to be a fast and strategic contest.
Flying Ace Vice-President Linden Dowridge received the company’s sponsorship from Chelsea Motley of its Accounts Department ahead of the event. He expressed the club’s appreciation to Farm Supplies Guyana Limited for its continued commitment to cycling.
The senior division carries the largest share of the prize money. The first six finishers will receive $30,000, $20,000, $15,000, $10,000, $8,000 and $6,000, respectively. Senior riders will also contest 10 prime prizes worth $1,500 each.
The veteran division will reward its top four finishers with $18,000, $14,000, $10,000 and $7,000. The over-50 category offers $18,000, $14,000 and $12,000 to its first three riders, while the top four Category Four competitors will earn $18,000, $14,000, $12,000 and $8,000.
In the juvenile race, the first three finishers will collect $12,000, $10,000 and $7,000, while the top two juniors will receive $12,000 and $10,000.
Adding further significance to the partnership, Farm Supplies Sales Manager Dale Van Sluytman is a former Flying Ace junior cyclist. He and members of the company’s team will attend the event and present the prizes across the various categories.
Cycling supporters are expected to gather along Irving Street and around the National Park circuit to see whether John can successfully defend his crown or a new champion will emerge.
