From Lethem to Jamaica: Larose takes next step with St Jago football scholarship

Flavio Larose’s journey from Lethem to Georgetown has now opened another door, with the promising Guyanese footballer earning a Sixth Form Football Scholarship to St Jago High School in Jamaica.

Larose will pursue further studies while representing St Jago in the ISSA Manning Cup, Jamaica’s premier Under-19 secondary-school football tournament and one of the Caribbean’s most widely followed school competitions.

The achievement follows his successful completion of eight CSEC subjects at Chase’s Academic Foundation. Larose gained a Grade One in Physical Education and Grade Threes in English A, Mathematics, Human and Social Biology, Electronic Document Preparation and Management, Office Administration, Principles of Accounts and Principles of Business.

Originally from Lethem, Larose moved to Georgetown after accepting a scholarship from Chase’s in 2023. The relocation allowed him to pursue stronger academic and football opportunities, and his success at CSEC has now positioned him to continue both areas of his development overseas.

His St Jago scholarship includes airfare to Kingston, registration and administrative fees, nutritional assistance and medical coverage for injuries sustained during approved training or competition.

It may also provide access to specialised physical, psychological, rehabilitative and developmental support through the school’s sports programme. Further assistance could be offered through St Jago’s Sports Development and Mentorship Programme, depending on assessment, resources and official approval.

Larose will be required to maintain good academic standing, attend school and training punctually, display high standards of behaviour and satisfy the expectations of the coaching staff. His scholarship will be reviewed annually based on his academics, attendance, conduct, training commitment and overall contribution.

Michael Richmond was instrumental in arranging the scholarship, continuing his involvement in creating overseas opportunities for Guyanese footballers. His previous work has contributed to Jamaican pathways for players such as Kvist Paul, Matrim Martin and Neron Barrow at the school and club levels.

St Jago, which was founded in 1744, believes Larose’s time at the institution will support his academic achievement, personal growth, character development and advancement as a footballer. His presence in Jamaica is now required to complete enrolment and begin participating fully in the school’s academic and sporting programmes.
