School football in Guyana has received a major boost with the introduction of the first CONCACAF/Guyana Football Federation (GFF) D-Licence coaching course specifically for teachers and school coaches.
The programme, organised by the Ministry of Education through the Unit of Allied Arts, is designed to equip participants with the skills required to deliver structured, safe and age-appropriate football training to students.
Participants are being exposed to fundamental coaching methodologies, child safeguarding, effective drill design and physical training suited to different age groups. The training is intended to improve the quality of coaching available to young players within the school system.
Unit of Allied Arts Coordinator Eon DeViera highlighted the wider value of investing in the development of teachers and coaches, noting that strengthening their capacity can create a multiplier effect throughout the country.
With better-trained coaches working directly with students, the programme is expected to contribute to the development of more disciplined, skilled and resilient young athletes.
The historic course also supports the wider sports development drive by placing qualified coaching knowledge closer to young players during the important early stages of their development.
