Sterling Products renews support for nationwide Courts Pee Wee football tournament

Sterling Products Limited has renewed its sponsorship of the Courts Optical Pee Wee Under-11 Football Tournament. PR Manager for Sterling Youlandra McCammon (2nd from right) handed over the sponsorship to Petra Organisation’s Jackie Boodie.

Sterling Products Limited has renewed its sponsorship of the Courts Optical Pee Wee Under-11 Football Tournament, strengthening an initiative expected to involve more than 400 pupils from seven administrative regions.

The 2026 tournament is scheduled to kick off at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, with organisers announcing a field of 32 teams. Kabakaburi Primary School of Region Two will return to the competition following a two-year absence.

Speaking at Tuesday’s sponsorship presentation, Sterling Products Marketing Manager Dellon Lynch commended the Petra Organisation for expanding grassroots football and creating opportunities for children throughout Guyana.

“The impact has already shown over the recent editions,” Lynch said as he congratulated Petra on the continued transformation of grassroots football and the wider reach of the Pee Wee programme.

Lynch said Sterling Products had seen the benefits of Petra’s tournaments and similar extracurricular programmes, both on the playing field and in the classroom.

He noted that participating pupils have improved their skills over the years and believes their involvement in sport can positively influence their focus, thinking and cognitive development.

“Sterling Products has always been proud to be a part of these initiatives,” Lynch said.

The latest sponsorship also fulfilled a commitment made by the company approximately one year ago. At that time, Lynch indicated that Sterling Products intended to adopt a more inclusive approach to supporting Petra’s programmes. Tuesday’s presentation provided tangible evidence of that pledge.

Petra Organisation Secretary Jackie Boodie thanked the Ministry of Education and Sterling Products Chief Executive Officer Ramsey Ali for their continued partnership.

According to Boodie, Sterling Products’ support has played a major role in bringing together more than 400 pupils in one tournament and extending the competition to seven administrative regions.

She said Petra was delighted to welcome the company as an official sponsor of the Courts Pee Wee Under-11 Football Tournament and praised its meaningful commitment to sports development.

Sterling Products Public Relations Manager Youlandra McCammon and Petra Organisation Co-Director Troy Mendonca were also present at the presentation.

The participating schools announced for the tournament are Waramuri Primary, Santa Rosa and St. Nicholas Primary from Region One; Kabakaburi Primary School from Region Two; Lichfield Primary and Belladrum from Region Five; and St. Therese’s and St. Aloysius from Region Six.

The remaining teams are Stella Maris, Smith’s Memorial, West Primary, Marian Academy, F.E. Pollard, Colaaco, GIA, St. Stephen’s, St. Gabriel’s, St. Pius, Redeemer, Tucville, Anns Grove, Clonbrook, Soesdyke, Pakuri Primary, Queenstown, Genesis, Leonora, Goed Fortuin, St. John, Batavia, Agatash and Potaro.
