Guyana and Jamaica have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen cooperation in tourism and hospitality, including investment, air connectivity, training and sustainable tourism development.
Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Susan Rodrigues and Jamaica’s Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett signed the agreement during the State of the Tourism Industry Conference (SOTIC) 2026 at the Atlantic Suites by Hyatt, according to a release issued yesterday.
The agreement provides a framework for sharing expertise, developing links between tourism stakeholders and encouraging travel between the two countries. It also covers cooperation in tourism resilience.
Rodrigues said the agreement would allow the countries to draw on each other’s experience and explore opportunities for collaboration.
“This partnership allows us to learn from each other’s experiences, build stronger connections between our tourism stakeholders and create opportunities that benefit our people and the wider Caribbean,” she stated.
Bartlett said cooperation with Guyana could support regional tourism integration and the development of multi-destination travel. He stressed that the industry’s success should extend beyond visitor arrival figures to the benefits retained by local economies.
“Guyana is adding much more to the Caribbean tourism experience, with its forests, hidden valleys and rich natural heritage. We want to build the capacity of our people to respond to the demands of prosperity and ensure that we retain greater value from tourism for our people,” Bartlett said.
The signing was witnessed by Permanent Secretary of Jamaica’s Ministry of Tourism Jennifer Griffith, Guyana Tourism Authority Director Kamrul Baksh, and Caribbean Tourism Organization Secretary-General and Chief Executive Officer Dona Regis-Prosper.
The release did not specify implementation timelines, funding commitments or particular projects to be pursued under the agreement.
