Guyana’s Utility Scale Solar Photovoltaic (GUYSOL) Programme has won the Best Clean Energy Programme Award at the 2026 Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum Industry Awards in Panama, Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) announced yesterday.
Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation Deodat Indar and GUYSOL Programme Coordinator Amir Dillawar received the award on October 15.
According to GPL, the programme has delivered five solar farms with a combined installed capacity of 18 megawatts-peak. Three additional facilities are planned for Linden.
GPL executes the programme, which is financed through Guyana’s forest-climate earnings under its partnership with Norway. The financing is linked to the Guyana REDD+ Investment Fund and administered by the Inter-American Development Bank.
The utility said the programme forms part of Guyana’s clean energy development under the Low Carbon Development Strategy 2030. The Guyana–Norway climate partnership was established in 2009.
