Public servants have completed a two-day training programme on identifying workplace hazards, assessing risks and preventing accidents, the Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning said.
Held on October 20 and 21, the programme was delivered by the ministry’s Occupational Safety and Health Department in collaboration with the Training and Development Department of the Ministry of Public Service, Government Efficiency and Implementation.
Assistant Chief Occupational Safety and Health Officer Maxine Bess facilitated sessions on safety regulations, hazard management, risk assessment, workplace inspections, safety culture, and accident investigation and prevention.
The Gender Affairs Bureau provided instruction on gender roles and stereotypes, while the Guyana Fire Service covered fire hazards, prevention, the use of extinguishers and evacuation procedures.
Participants also received training in professional service delivery, ethics, changing mindsets and public engagement.
According to the ministry, the programme was intended to strengthen compliance with occupational safety regulations, improve the recognition and assessment of risks, and encourage the proper use of personal protective equipment.
It concluded with a post-test, an online evaluation and the presentation of certificates.
