President Irfaan Ali yesterday accepted the Letters of Credence from the first Resident Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Guyana,  Muhannad Sulaiman Abdalla Ahmed Al Naqbi, at the Office of the President yesterday.

During discussions following the simple ceremony, President Ali and the Resident Ambassador discussed ways of enhancing partnerships in multiple areas including digitalisation, government efficiency, housing, energy, food security, and tourism, a release from the Office of the President said.

Guyana and the UAE officially established diplomatic relations on February 6, 1995.

The ambassador’s arrival here has come amid his country’s nomination of its Minister of State, Lana Nusseibeh to be the new UN Secretary General. Guyana has nominated its permanent representative to the UN, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett.
