Eight franchises will compete for a $1 million first prize when the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) stages its T10 Fundraiser Tournament at the LBI Ground on Sunday, November 22.

The one-day competition will begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue into the evening under floodlights. Admission is $1,000, with proceeds supporting grassroots cricket programmes for boys and girls throughout Demerara.

Premier Insurance, Lusignan Bulls, Guyana Police Force, Mike’s Tynor XI, Young Rivals, Mae’s Spartans, Upper Demerara Titans and Transport Trailblazers will contest the tournament.

Preparations have received further corporate backing through a financial contribution from Universal Construction and Contracting, which has joined the event’s sponsors.

The company’s Managing Director, Surendra Hiralall, handed over the contribution to DCB Vice-President Puneet Jaigopaul during a presentation at the board’s Regent Street office. The sponsorship was announced on October 30.

The DCB thanked the company for supporting the initiative and highlighted the importance of corporate partnerships in strengthening cricket across the county.

While the franchises pursue the top prize, the competition will also provide opportunities for local and emerging players. Each team can register a 15-player squad, with at least 12 members from Demerara and a maximum of three from outside the county.

Every squad must also contain at least two Under-19 players, with one or more required in the starting XI. These conditions are intended to promote competitive balance and give young cricketers opportunities to develop through competition.

The board has encouraged cricket enthusiasts, families, businesses and the wider public to attend, with their support helping to fund the development of the game at the grassroots level.
