Terrence Jackson was yesterday sentenced to 25 years in prison for the murder of his wife, Somattie Keosoram, who was stabbed in 2020.
The sentence was handed down by Justice Sandil Kissoon at the High Court in Demerara after Jackson was found guilty of the offence.
Jackson was convicted for the murder committed on January 23, 2020, at Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara.
Keosoram, 44, was a mother of six and had been married to Jackson for approximately 25 years.
The prosecution was led by Cicelia Corbin and Rodley Mattoo, while Jackson was represented by attorney Glendon Greenidge, with Joshua Benn appearing on his behalf.
An autopsy found that Keosoram died from multiple stab wounds.
Keosoram had ended the marriage due to years of abuse and had moved to Cane Grove with her children. Jackson, however, continued visiting the home and had reportedly moved back in shortly before her death.
Keosoram was attacked at her Virginia Village, Cane Grove home on the evening of January 23, 2020, in the presence of her teenage daughter. She was rushed to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Jackson was arrested the following morning after fleeing the scene and allegedly attempting to take his own life.
