Peters Hall businesswoman robbed of cash, jewels

Police are investigating an armed robbery at Peters Hall, East Bank Demerara, during which a businesswoman was relieved of cash, jewellery, watches and electronic devices valued at millions of dollars.

According to a police statement, the robbery occurred at about 2 pm on Thursday, July 23, at the woman’s business place.

Police said the 33-year-old businesswoman was confronted by three masked men, two of whom were reportedly armed with handguns. One of the suspects pointed a firearm at her and demanded money before her hands were bound.

The assailants escaped with three Samsung cellular phones, an Acer laptop computer, six Movado watches, a quantity of gold jewellery, $5 million in cash and US$7,000.

The suspects then fled the scene in a white, old-model Toyota Raum bearing registration number PLL 1323.

Police said several persons have since been questioned and investigators are reviewing footage from CCTV cameras in the area.

No shots were fired and the businesswoman was not injured.

Investigations are continuing.
