Five Brazilians fined for illegal entry, ordered to leave Guyana

Five Brazilian nationals were each fined $30,000 and ordered to leave Guyana within 24 hours after pleading guilty to illegal entry at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Elvis Maques De Souza, 29; Derick Pereira De Souza; Delroy Batista, 29; Hentony Gabriel Silva, 26; and Hosana Gomes DaSilva, 45, all of Boa Vista, Brazil, appeared via Zoom before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir.

According to a police release, the five were charged with entering Guyana across a land frontier and failing to immediately present themselves to the nearest immigration officer.

They each admitted the charge. Police did not provide details of when or where they entered the country or the circumstances of their arrests.
