-applications close August 28
Guyana Shore Base Inc (GYSBI) has opened applications for its 2026 Technical Scholarship Programme, through which eligible students can receive up to $500,000 per academic year to pursue technical and vocational studies.
In a release yesterday, the company said the programme is open to Guyanese between the ages of 16 and 25 who have been accepted into, or are currently enrolled at, one of six participating technical institutes.
These are the Essequibo Technical Institute, Government Technical Institute, Linden Technical Institute, Mahaicony Technical Institute, New Amsterdam Technical Institute and Upper Corentyne Technical Institute.
Scholarships are available for studies in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Metal Work and Mechanical Fitting, and Welding and Fabrication.
According to GYSBI, the funding can be used to cover tuition and other academic expenses, transportation, uniforms, study materials and personal protective equipment.
Successful applicants will also be expected to undertake internships at GYSBI during semester breaks. The company said this component of the programme is intended to give students practical experience in a professional working environment.
Upon completing their studies, scholarship recipients may be considered for employment at the company, subject to vacancies and the relevant requirements. The scholarship does not guarantee employment.
GYSBI Human Resource Manager Iana Seales said the programme represents an investment in the development of Guyana’s technical workforce and is intended to create opportunities for young people to participate in the oil and gas sector.
“Guyana’s continued development will depend heavily on our ability to build a strong pool of skilled and technically competent professionals,” she was quoted as saying.
“Through this scholarship programme, GYSBI is investing not only in education, but in the long-term development of young Guyanese by giving them access to training, practical experience and opportunities to apply their skills within a rapidly evolving industry.”
Seales added that the company was committed to developing local talent and creating pathways through which Guyanese could participate in the country’s growth.
The Technical Scholarship Programme was first launched in 2023. GYSBI said it has since supported 22 students drawn from eight regions.
Applicants must be prepared to undertake an internship at the company during semester breaks and must provide the documents stipulated in the application requirements.
Applications and the complete list of required documents are available at GYSBI Technical Scholarship 2026.
The deadline for applications is August 28, 2026.
Additional information can be obtained from GYSBI’s Public Relations Department or through the company’s official social-media pages.
