Linden teenager jailed for armed robbery, firearm offence at Lethem

Isaiah Green

A 19-year-old Linden construction worker was on Thursday sentenced to 24 months’ imprisonment for an armed robbery and 27 months for discharging a loaded firearm with intent, following incidents in Central Rupununi in May.

Isaiah Green pleaded guilty to both charges before Magistrate Nikkisha Logan at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court, according to a police release.

The robbery occurred on May 26 at a general store in Tabatinga and was committed against a 27-year-old businessman.

The firearm charge arose from an incident on the same day at Bon Success, Lethem, involving a Deputy Superintendent of Police and a corporal attached to the Lethem Police Station.

Green was arrested on October 13 and subsequently charged.

Police said the charges were initially read as indictable matters, for which Green was not required to plead. Following the application of the Administration of Justice Act, the matters were dealt with summarily and he pleaded guilty to both.
