Despite an assurance by President Irfaan Ali that residents who lost their roofs in Wednesday’s ferocious storm on the Essequibo Coast would be given assistance, at least one woman in Reliance remained at the mercy of the elements yesterday.

Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed visited the woman’s home which up to yesterday was still without the tarpaulin that had been promised to all affected residents on Wednesday afternoon.

Additionally, during his visit to the Essequibo Coast on Wednesday afternoon, President Ali had assured residents that they would be supplied with roofing sheets yesterday to repair their roofs.

Mohamed lamented that despite the President’s promises the Reliance woman remained without a tarpaulin and roofing sheets.

After lamenting the situation, Mohamed said he would help the woman with a tarpaulin and money to purchase roofing sheets.

Over 100 homes on the Essequibo Coast were damaged by the storm which was accompanied by high winds and rain.
